We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Maya, but there were drawbacks. Here is a quick pro/con list.
Pros: gorgeous views, good onsite restautant, private outdoor balconies w/wide sliding doors & large rooms.
Cons: Outdated, small bathrooms, either a long walk/car ride to the mainland, SMALL crowded pool & no direct water/beach acess.
If you want easy, walkable access to all Long Beach has to offer, Hotel Maya isn't the best choice. However, our goal was a relaxing weekend w/water views...& THAT was something Hotel Maya delivered 10-fold. The hotel is outdated & rough around the edges, especially considering the cost, but it is very unique & the outdoor space is something you won't find anywhere else in Long Beach.
The food at the restaurant was good, the shaved street corn was amazing, but the timing of dishes was really off (our app & main dish arrived within 30 sec of each other & the wait staff was a little gruff.)
As expected, Covid limits housekeeping service, but the front desk was often hard to reach, & slow to repond with requests. We often had to call several times.
Our biggest dissapointment was the pool area. It was small & crowded for the size of the hotel. We normally can find a place to "tuck away" from kids/families & relax, but the small size didn't give us that option. So we opted to spend our outside time on our balcony rather than the pool.
Overall, we enjoyed our trip & Hotel Maya, but we may opt for a different hotel next time we visit Long Beach.
