Spectacular food, location, onsens. Do not miss!!!
We just spent five weeks in Japan and are still talking about the food we ate here. It is nothing short of spectacular. We paid quadruple at other ryokans and this one had the best food, best location and the best onsens. It’s an older place with older, big onsens and for us that was the charm of it. The rooms are very clean, the beds are comfortable. The staff was incredibly kind. We went skiing one day and snowshoeing the next and ended up seeing a red fox each day. Really can’t recommend this place enough as it’s such a great deal and again, the food....wow. Posted the menus so you can see why we freaked out.

Hotel and onsen are both a bit worn out and would need a refreshment, however everyone at the hotel is super nice and dinner and breakfast were good.
Just don't expect too much regardless the high prices, overall price performance is not very good.

Found this property on hitou.or.jp. Japanese Association of secluded hot spring inns. Wanted an outdoor hot spring experience but was let down by the temperature of Onsen and the scenery. Nevertheless, the food was AMAZING. Stay here if u would like some quiet time away from crowded touristy areas. :)

Wonderful lodge in the mountains
Beautiful Japanese style hotel with comfortable rooms, great onsen, and delicious food. The women's onsen is one of the oldest in the area and is very lovely. Not much English spoken but excellent service nonetheless.

A fantastic find
What an amazing find! The onsen was located in a beautiful area around 15 minutes walk from the bottom of the Asahidake Ropeway. The service was great: not too formal but extremely helpful. The food was the best that we had in Japan - and we had some amazing food everywhere so that is saying something. A great feature of the onsen is that the staff provide a lot of help to westerners, explaining each dish and how best to eat it both verbally and with menu notes, which really enhances the experience. We also had a very good room with a separate living section - great for family evenings. We voted this the best hotel of the 6 that we stayed in during this trip.

Great onsen and (with food) a decent deal!
Like many Japanese hotels this one had very polite staff that go out of their way to make things comfortable (down to some very small details!) So although the building is not brand new, it's still a wonderful experience. Not least of all because the onsens are beautiful and nearly meditative in the sense of peace and quiet you get while you're there!
The food is great (and very very plentiful) both breakfast and dinner, so much so that we barely ate lunch the days we were there. So counting these large and high quality meals, the onsen experience and service all-in, the hotel is actually a decent deal in spite of a relatively high price!

Wonderful Japansese experience
I booked this stay to experience traditional Japanese ryokan, onsen and food; I'm happy that the place greatly exceeded my expectations. The decoration is very nice and I like the descriptions of the materials and art in the facility. The food is spectacular for those willing to try Japanese food and it comes with a list of the courses. The onsen is very pleasant and relaxing. The local beer was pretty good too.

good food old hotel
Great food, nice staff, hotel is a bit old, ofuro(baths) need refurbishing. Price was high for quality of stay in Japan. Most other places for same prices would have been better in terms of ofuro cleanliness, look and feel. Little dated overall but not in a good way. Food made up for a lot but still over priced for what it is.

Nice Japanese style room and good onsen. The natural drinking water was great as well. The shower in the room only had either boiling hot water or ice cold water, but the onsen showers were cool. Breakfast was really good too.

Beautiful surroundings
A winter wonderland, picturesque forest snow walks, skiing, steaming volcanic onsen, Japanese hospitality... and comfortable traditional Japanese room and good Japanese cuisine (reasonably priced)
A place to revisit.
