I noticed that this hotel was rated as “Fabulous” and 8.8 on some booking and review sites. My experience was very different. The breakfast was fabulous, but then most Finnish hotel breakfasts are pretty amazing! What wasn’t fabulous was the “free parking available” which turned out to be 8€ to use the hotel outside parking lot or take your chances in the public carpark a block away! Also not fabulous was the inconvenience caused by one of the two lifts (elevators) not registering my floor - making it useless and annoying as it was always the first to arrive and needed reception to “send it away” while I waited for the other. The restaurant dinner was very average quality but the addition of “French” meant they could charge outrageously for your lack of culinary pleasure. Overall, this hotel is overhyped and overpriced, the room rate being twice what I paid for much more luxurious and pleasant accommodation! Did I mention, it appears to be the only hotel in the town centre - that might also explain their overhype and overpricing! It’s not so far to the next main town where the accommodation was superb, the service great and the food excellent! If this was the “Original Sokos”, I’m wondering if there is an improved version somewhere!
