Peaceful hotel, super friendly staff, beautiful surroundings
Dymphna, 1-night trip

8/10 Good

Dun beag cottage was peaceful and far away enough from the hotel. The hotel appears to be a popular wedding and event venue.
Stephen, 2-night trip

10/10 Excellent

Beautiful period property with bags of character. Lovely lounge area with comfortable seating to relax and chat, have a drink before or after dining. Very comfortable bed, excellent food and so therefore excellent value for money for your stay.
Melanie, 1-night trip

10/10 Excellent

Quiet country house hotel in lovely surroundings. A charming, old-style design that is harder to find these days. Very relaxing, peaceful stay.
Trevor, 1-night trip

10/10 Excellent

We stayed in the 2 bedroom house, it was lovely and clean, comfortable and very well equipped for self catering. We enjoyed walking around the grounds. And had a very nice dinner in the restaurant. The receptionist was very professional and smiley, making us feel very welcome. An enjoyable stay
Toni, 1-night trip

8/10 Good

Liked the atmospheric surroundings and view from room. Disliked the price of dinner
jo, 1-night trip

8/10 Good

Quiet, traditional country hotel. Beautiful location, very helpful staff and a lovely stretch of river. Only thing that stopped me rating it as excellent was the slightly limited dinner menu- somewhat limited. Pay a little bit more for the deluxe rooms- well worth it.
timothy, 3-night trip

10/10 Excellent

The service and friendliness of the staff was absolutely phenomenal. There are some dated aspects but that is to be expected (and for some people a highlight) of staying in such a historic place.
Mikayla, 1-night trip

8/10 Good

Amazing location and building, friendly helpful reception and bar staff. Great location for exploring the area and grounds. Deluxe rooms are clean, very spacious, comfortable beds but could benefit from a decor refresh, for example, ceiling light fittings are very basic looking and bathroom a little underwhelming but clean. Some carpets threadbare on main stairway and corridor decor needs attention - ie bashed walls. Restaurant staff mostly friendly with 1 exception who is not a 'people person'. Overall good, but could be great.
simon, 3-night trip

10/10 Excellent

Lovely quiet cottage.
Adam, 1-night trip

Peaceful, comfortable, average food

Quiet and peaceful, with a very comfortable bed. Food was average. Some very dusty corners, although the bathroom was clean. Lovely grounds.

I'll be back :)

Beautiful setting, nice walks. Staff were very friendly and extremely helpful and welcoming. Dinner was delicious with a varied choice. Dog was made very welcome. Would definitely stay here again.
Marion, 1-night trip

10/10 Excellent

We attended a wedding at Friars Carse over 20 years ago and as it was a convenient stop on our way to the highlands, thought we would try it again. I was afraid it may not have aged well but it is actually even better than I remembered. It is a beautiful place to stay, housekeeping is excellent, staff are helpful and discreetly friendly and it is just so relaxing. We stayed in Redwood which I believe is the honeymoon suite and nothing could be more idyllic. Very much looking forward to future visits. Thank you.
Elizabeth, 1-night trip

Frances, 1-night trip

8/10 Good

Great place right on the river side.
Neil, 2-night trip

8/10 Good

Family atmosphere, lovely countryside, nice flock of Guinea fowls wandering the grounds!
Thom, 2-night trip

10/10 Excellent

Don’t think about staying here, just do it! 5 stars
Tyson, 1-night trip

8/10 Good

Could be wonderful.. sadly it isn't

Lovely historic building in a beautiful setting, unfortunately the lack of investment by the owner is evident with grounds that need attention, chipped paintwork, mismatched furnishings, dreadful piped music from the 1930's, a breakfast that was meagre and non functioning WiFi. So much potential!
Douglas, 1-night trip

10/10 Excellent

Beautiful location

Beautiful location, went fly fishing in the river while I was there, food was good too!
Andy, 1-night trip

We had a lovely stay, food was fantastic. Staff are personable and welcoming. We have stayed previously and had our wedding here in 2019. We will definitely be long time returning customers. Thanks to the team for a great stay 😊

A diamond in the rough enjoyed every minute of our stay. The place is very elegant with a fresh water river flowing beside it with a walking path. I will definitely stay here again if I’m ever in the area.
