10/10 Exceptional

Very pleasantly surprised. Given the very reasonable price, I came in with low expectations. But wow, though the rooms are small, they are quite nice. Recently remodeled it seems, and very clean. There’s a lot of attention to detail in all the small things in the design and upkeep of the rooms: someone went out of their way to cool all of the power cables for TV, phone, etc and cable tie them, there’s nice ledges for toiletries in the bathroom and inside the shower, and the bed is very soft. I’m not a fan of down pillows even though I know they are pretty fancy but if you are, that’s what they’ve got. And of course, the location is great. Check in worked out for me but was a little nerve wracking - I booked with Expedia and arrived after hours (the lobby closes at noon). They have a lockbox just outside the door for you to enter your booking number. I only had my Expedia itinerary number which was much too long. But I started entering it anyway and halfway through, my key dropped out. That was one big blast of relief!

Will this hotel work for you?
If you like mixups with electric door tags, so that it opens not your room's door, but some other room's, this hotel will work for you. If you like that people can walk in from the street, climb the stairs and stand in front of your room, without meeting any staff, this hotel will work for you.

Great Location!
Great price!! Great location, 5 minute walk from train station which is also great for trams and buses into town. Staff spoke English and were very friendly. Not fancy, but very clean and comfortable. I enjoyed my stay here and would recommend this hotel.

8/10 Very Good

Hotel Classic is a basic inn near the train station in Heidelberg. We got a good deal on the room, and if you are going to stay here, you should have expectations about what it is and *isn't. The internet, like other reviews indicated, is terrible, but you can get a good signal in the stairwells or sunroom. The room has no A/C, which can be challenging on hot days. The room itself is larger than standard European hotel rooms, and the hotel has an elevator that hits some floors. It can be a bit loud at times, depending on your neighbors. I brought earplugs, which largely solved that problem. We were working in Heidelberg most days, so only spent time here in the evenings. Didn't have the breakfast, so no comments on that. Other reviewers indicated the breakfast room was bleak, but I peeked my head in and found it quite nice. We found hotel front desk staff (not the housekeeper though) to be very friendly and helpful (we are Americans). They have reasonably priced water and snacks in the room, which we appreciated. If you are looking for location primarily, and are in no need of internet in your room or A/C, you would be OK with this place. Also, we checked in when the front desk staff were around, but they keep specific hours, and won't be there all the time. We were able to get in/out at late hours with no problem with our key card. But, if you are checking in when they are not around, you will need to figure out some sort of key code to access the hotel after hours.

Easy walk from train station.
Hotel Classic Inn is right next door to Kaufland, a reasonably priced grocery store selling food and water. It is very near the train station. At the train station there is a McDonalds that is always open. There are many bakeries within the train station and a very good Thai fast food area near the Reisebank station at one end of the station. Classic Inn has a very good front desk attendant who works very hard. He told us which tram to take to the old town. We had laundry done there. It cost 8 Euros to wash and dry, but he folded it nicely and it was such a relief because we were traveling light and needed clean clothes, and he did all the work. It was the most expensive of all our hotels and the room was the smallest, but all in all, it was what we needed and was quite adequate. The buffet breakfast was good, consisting of boiled eggs, various rolls, jams, bread and butter, pickles, fruit, coffee, cold cuts, cereals, milk, juice, and other little goodies.

Excellent position for all needs.
This hotel is old but beautiful, It has a lobby, lift, and conservatory which can only be accessed by a room key card. This makes it so secure at night when arriving back from any event. The rooms are VERY clean and practical. The shower rooms are small but perfectly adequate with hairdryer, fresh towels, soaps etc. The bed was comfy too. The owners are friendly and very helpful. They speak perfect English, but were happy to talk in German to us as that was the purpose of our visit to Germany. The breakfast was yummy with smoked salmon daily, eggs, fresh rolls, bread and plenty of choice regarding meats and cheeses : a perfect and fulsome continental fare. Vielen Dank Hotel Classic Inn für unseren schönen Aufenthalt bei dir :)

A stay at the classic...well it's a very budget hotel rooms are basic no coffee tea facilities WiFi is there but isn't consistent only best for emails or correspondence not Skype or anything gets like that.administration are very helpful in local info and where to get trams etc.if your traveling by motorbike they do tend to let you park directly outside the front door entrance.most other places are within travel distances. There is a local drunk row just on the way into town...best place to go is up by the university platz not the bizmarkplatz area as there is a micro brewery pub which serves great meals too

Decent Budget Hotel
The people who worked there were very friendly and helpful. I asked for restaurant recommendations and ended up at a fantastic place nearby! This is certainly a budget hotel that has not been renovated in years, but it was not dirty. It's really close to the main train station and right on the bus and tram routes. The area was quiet at night, the only noise came from within the hotel as the walls are thin. Earplugs were sufficient to drown out the noise of people in the hallway or blow drying their hair in another room. The bed comfort was average. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for budget accommodation or want to be very close to transit. It was about a 10 minute walk from the river and about a 30 minute walk from the old town.

2/10 Poor

Horrible, will never stay again!!
Hotel staff is gone after 8pm and reception is closed. I arrived 30min past 8. Then I called them to ask for a wi-fi password, and they refused to give me one because I arrived too late. And couple hours later I saw at least one more person who arrived at the hotel and was confused on how to check in because all the staff was gone and no one could help him. My point is 8pm is too early to close because a lot of people depend on traffic and may have trouble getting in to town on time. And the sink in my room was clogged, I couldn't even brush my teeth in the morning because water would spill over. They charge 4 euros for city map (only when reception is open, of course). I've never seen it nowhere before, it's insane! It should be free and available at any time. Horrible hotel, will never stay again and won't recommend to no one!

Always quite happy with this hotel. Good location by the station, so if you arrive by bus or train it's perfect. Comfortable room, quiet, good night's sleep, walking distance to town, good breakfast, clean and friendly receptionist. No complaints!

Nice Hotel for two night stay
It was for a short trip to Heidelberg. Room and single bed were small, but enough for me. cozy and clean. breakfast was normal. Very Close from the main Station. Walkable distance to attractions such as the Castle. Although the reception was closed quite early (7pm or 8 pm), I did not have occasions to contact the personnel for help luckily. Overall, old, small, and clean place to stay. I enjoyed my stay.

Excellent location for trips out
The hotel is close to the station, ideal for visiting other towns by rail, but there wasn't street noise and there are shutters to keep noise and light out as well. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the old town by the back route (quiet, safe, residential roads), avoiding main streets. The breakfast is better than average. The rooms although quite plain are a decent size and the shower works efficiently. It was convenient to have the room key card with me instead of having to collect it from reception every time I went out. This is a good value for money hotel.
