Great location, but old and tired
The hotel has a great location right on the town square. Has a classic old hotel feel. But also feels old and tired. You can easily hear your neighbors. Small space heaters provided to heat the room. The continental breakfast was at best mediocre. Not sure I would stay there again.

Great stay
We stay here every time we come into Arcata. It is clean and charming, beds are comfy and I love the clawfoot bathtubs in the room. The building is over 100 years old so each room has it's only personality.

Cool hotel
Hotel attracts is cool. It's old and funky, but clean. It's right on the plaza where the freaky action happens.
Breakfast could use some work, but there's good restaurants near by.

Expedia misrepresented the room I chose vs what I received. The Hotel Arcata was historically charming but the rooms are very small .

The hotel and staff were great. I checked in after 8pm and there was no parking near the hotel. I had to grab the basics from my suitcase and walk two blocks past bars and a liquor store where people were “hanging out.” The smell was horrible. I was alone and I did not feel safe. I checked out early the next morning and there were numerous parking places near the hotel. Parking spaces should be “marked” for “hotel customers only,” especially with carrying bags/luggage. I felt like a “target.”

In the life of Arcata
Great stay on the downtown plaza. Great nearby shopping and food! A mile from Cal Poly Humboldt. We had noise from the restaurant under our room til 10 pm. Lots of noise from protest on the square during 10/7 during the day. No issues with parking in town - it’s free. It felt safe and friendly.
Breakfast is lackluster. The people are all awesome.

We loved the character of the property but the noise from outside and in the hallway bled into the room very easily.

My favorite thing was the clawfoot bathtub. Very friendly staff, and accomodating. Slept well with some peace and quiet, Victorian aura was very nice

Best location in Arcata
If you're looking for privacy, don't bother with the Basic Suite -- it's 2 rooms, but there is no door. I love the location and the charm of this hotel and especially the walkability to everything in town. I do wish a minifridge was in the room.
